Walcot RFC secures planning permission for four covered padel courts at Lansdown

Walcot Rugby Football Club is delighted to announce that planning permission has been granted for a new padel facility at its Lansdown site, bringing four covered courts and year-round playing opportunities to Bath. The scheme was approved by Bath & North East Somerset Council on 19 October 2026.

The development represents a significant investment in community sport, creating a high-quality facility for players of all ages and abilities while supporting the club's long-term sustainability and ambitions to broaden its sporting offer

Chair of Walcot Rugby Football Club, Ian Pitman, said:

"We are absolutely delighted to have received planning approval for this exciting project. Padel is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, and these new courts will provide a fantastic facility for local people while helping secure the long-term future of the club.

As a community sports club, we're always looking for ways to encourage greater participation in sport and physical activity. This development will create new opportunities for players of all ages and abilities and strengthen Walcot RFC's role at the heart of the local community."

The facility will be operated by Padel Court Club, a specialist padel operator focused on delivering high-quality venues and growing participation in the sport across the UK.

Dan Laidler-Hall of Padel Court Club said:

"We're thrilled to be partnering with Walcot RFC on this exciting project. Bath is a thriving sporting city and we're looking forward to creating a vibrant padel community at Lansdown. The new courts will provide a welcoming environment for everyone, from complete beginners to experienced players."

The scheme will be delivered by PCC Contracting, who have been appointed as design and build contractor for the project.

The planning application was prepared and managed by LPC (Trull) Ltd, led by Simon Chambers, whose submission demonstrated the sporting, health and wellbeing benefits of the project while incorporating extensive measures to minimise environmental, ecological, landscape and lighting impacts.

Simon Chambers, Director of LPC (Trull) Ltd, said:

"We are pleased that the Council has recognised the significant community and sporting benefits of this proposal. The development will provide much-needed facilities for Bath while respecting the environmental qualities of the site and enhancing opportunities for active recreation."

Located directly opposite the Lansdown Park & Ride, the new facility will benefit from excellent public transport links, making it easily accessible from Bath city centre and neighbouring communities across Bath and North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire, creating a convenient destination for one of the UK's fastest-growing sports.

The club will now begin work on discharging planning conditions and progressing the development, with further announcements on construction and opening dates expected in due course.
